Retirement is Looking Good!

Perhaps I should wait until retirement to get a dog.

My husband really does not want a dog, the kids are getting older and are out a lot. Who's around to keep the little critter company, walk him, play with him? Hubby won't have a dog in the house (although I would sneak him inside when the husband is out). It's really not fair to have a pet and not be with him when you are home.

However, I still dream of getting one. Sometimes I even look at caravan park and camping ground websites checking out those that are pet friendly. I'm a sad case, aren't I?!

Giving up!

I think I will give up. With the price of houses down, our neighbours certainly will not be selling. It has been about 8 months since this whole saga began and not a damn thing has happened. I guess we could just forge ahead and give them a "notice to fence". That would force the situation. Perhaps deep down I don't want a dog at all. I don't know.

Dreams of a doggy holiday didn't materialise

After our neighbours let us know they do not want a fence whilst they sell their house, everything came to a halt. There was nothing to do. Quotes expired, talking to fencing contractors became a pointless exercise, and looking for a little hairy friend on the internet also became pointless. Our holidays, which we had hoped would be spent landscaping the back yard after the fence was erected, turned into a sloth-fest. Extreme summer heat and lack of airconditioning in our house forced us to seek refuge in shopping malls and cinemas. If we weren't escaping the heat we just blobbed around like a couple of sacks of potatoes. Having a canine mate would have forced us to be active. It has been a disappointing vacation.

Meanwhile, the neighbours have had tradesmen in their house beautifying it for the sale ... whenever that may be! We do not know when they will put the property on the market, but it had better be soon. They are certainly not telling us a damn thing. And, to rub salt into the wound, they have gone away on holiday for two weeks!!!! I will be very old and even greyer than I already am before we get a dog! Ho hum.

Will We Ever Get a Dog - Or Even a Fence?

What can I tell you? Not much, that's for sure. The neighbours do not want a fence because they are going to sell their house. How damn difficult is this all proving to be?!!!! I cannot stand it. We try to do the right thing all the time and get our faces spat on. I am sick of being nice. I think only the bastards of the world get what they want. Maybe they will go to hell at the end of it all and spend eternity in vats of boiling oil screaming their lungs out. One can only hope.
Meanwhile, sad little me still spends time searching the websites of dog pounds and the like.

Nothing is happening

Nothing. Absolutely nothing is happening. I got three quotes. I gave the three quotes to the neighbour. Now I am waiting. And waiting. Tonight I will go into the neighbour and ask if he has checked out the quotes. I do not know what the problem could be. Perhaps they got dumped on the kitchen bench and the daily newspaper got dumped on top of them and they all got thrown out in the garbage. Who knows! Tonight is the night!

Fencing Contractors - things are moving!

Things are really starting to move along! Last Saturday a fencing contractor came around and I'm waiting for the quote.
I rang another one today and he is coming around next Saturday. WOW! This is really exciting stuff!
And ... the neighbour came over the other day and gave the go-ahead for the fencing and gate relocation.
So, now it's just a matter of getting the quotes and making a decision on which guy to use.
Of course, you know what this means ... once the fence is up we can get a dog!!!!!

Chat with Neighbour is Optimistic

Today, I finally caught up with my next door neighbour.
I mentioned the possibility of extending the side fence and relocating the double gate.
She seemed to be okay with it but she will talk to her husband about it just in case he has any objections. So it's looking good!
